National MMIP Awareness Day

Today is a National Day to honor all missing and murdered indigenous relatives. This final mural and vision was created by Zuni Pueblo artist Mallery Quetawki (artist) who led our "Resiliency Through Art" component of the Healing Circle. It is a collective of everyone's prayers and encouragement to the world and that of relatives who have been impacted. The idea behind this digital collage was to allow participants to submit a creative piece as a part of a larger work that demonstrates the idea of resiliency through faith and prayer. This digitally created image of three indigenous matriarchal figures, each holding a basket of offerings that ask for healing, liberation and safety. Much like the idea of offering corn meal, corn pollen and tobacco when in prayer. Click on the link below to find the interactive piece. (Best if you open link in your bio) There are pieces that will open up to participant pieces and organizations/resources to follow. Below is an explanation of what each color represents.

Healing(Red)-Understanding that victims and families have experienced multiple layers of trauma and need trust, support, acceptance, accountability, education and confidentiality in order to begin healing using culture and services to help attain peace.

Liberation(Yellow)-Achieving intergovernmental cooperation by supporting tribal sovereignty free from dominance and control ensuring self-determination, empowerment and freedom from imprisonment, slavery or oppression.

Safety (Turquoise)-Supporting tribal coalitions and organizations to properly enhance the safety for all indigenous relatives and communities from all forms of violence and oppression.

May we find the justice and healing needed to free the spirits and families whom are most impacted. Our hearts and prayers are with you today and everyday. ✊🏽❤🙏🏽 #NotOneMore #MMIW #MMIR #MMIWGT2S#WhyWearRed
