Deb Haaland Nomination
Congratulations to our Pueblo sister, mom and auntie Deb Haaland (Laguna and Jemez Pueblo) on their historic nomination to become the Secretary of the Department of the Interior. This is the first time that a Pueblo Indigenous woman will hold this office, a moment that we should all remember and celebrate. Pueblo Indigenous people are still here, still advocating for land and water protection and instilling an Indigenous worldview to shift the white patriarchal dominion.
We wish her well during her time as Secretary. The Department of the Interior oversees the federal departments like BoR, BLM, BIA, and FWS that enforce federal policy to protect and conserve public lands, stolen lands from the Indigenous People. We must remain our integrity as Indigenous stewards and protectors. Please read the statement from the All Pueblo Council of Governors
We respectfully ask that our DOI Secretary continue their advocacy and commitment to the following issues:
Continue to Protect Chaco Canyon from fracking expansion and cancel the draft RMPA from the Farmington Field Office
Address and learn about the concerns of the Five Freedman Tribes of Oklahoma and provide equitable access to federal housing monies that every Sovereign Indigenous Nation has right too. To support the Five Freedman Tribes of Oklahoma, please sign this petition to support these sovereign tribes and learn more about their struggles
Continue advocating for a just transition to renewable energies: Interview with Deb Haaland on environmental issues
Protect our water resources and address the inequities around water infrastructure in Indigenous communities
Continue to advocate for meaningful Tribal Consultation and Free Prior Informed Consent: Haaland Delivers Keynote Addressing Infrastructure in Indian Country During National Conference
We have faith that you will continue to listen to the grassroots Indigenous movement. Thank you, Deb for supporting Pueblo Action Alliance!
